TOURISM STRATEGY UNDER REVIEW
Airports, wharves and roads to bring visitors to Northland will come under the spotlight in a $40,000 review of the region’s tourism strategy. The new strategy will chart a course for the development of Northland’s $500-million-a-year tourism industry until 2008.
Destination Northland chief executive Brian Roberts said key focuses would include air services, marine services, tourism product development, Maori and cultural heritage development, eco- tourism, and tourism-related investment. The review will update a 1996 strategy that has seen the introduction of branding and marketing, the promotion of the Twin Coast Highway, and new investment including the Kauri Cliffs golf course and lodge.
Industry New Zealand is contributing $25,000 to the review, which will be undertaken in consultation with industry participants, government agencies and local government. (Source: Tonga Observer Online - August 2002)
